Has your family ever forgotten about you? Yes? Well may I join your club?
It’s not that my family doesn’t care, it’s just that they are all absent minded people who forget things very easily. Would you like an example? Okay:
I was a child when we took the entire family to put flowers on my grandfather’s grave in Charleston, SC. It was a little creepy with all the spanish moss, and the mosquitoes were abundant that day…attacking us left and right. We run out of the car, put the flowers on the grave, and then everyone runs back to the car….except me. I was being pushed out of the way and I was not able to make it to the car at that time. They floored it and drove out of the graveyard while I was running behind the car waving my arms wildly, crying and screaming. It took about a minute to realize they had left me behind.
Flash forward a few years later when I get locked out of my house while everyone is in it. I had to stack picnic tables and benches to climb up to the second floor to climb in through a window. Did I mention that it was raining cats and dogs?
Now let’s jump ahead to this evening when my family drop me off at work because they need my car for around the town errands. Because I am a waitress and I don’t know when I get out of work, I tell them I’m not comfortable with this, but they assure me that the bases are covered. We agree that I will call them when I am ready. So I call them. And call them. I call everyone about five times each. They forgot about me…again. So at around 10 p.m. when they’re closing down the joint and I’m about to be left for the rats, I finally have to call my uncle, who luckily was home and available to pick me up.
My family was at the movie theater.
Sometimes I get very frustrated with them…
